Iowa’s crop ratings slip again

The top condition ratings for Iowa’s corn and soybean crops slipped again last week as drought conditions in central and west-central Iowa continue to take a toll.

Corn fell four points to 73 percent good to excellent while soybeans dropped three points to 73 percent.

Corn in the dough stage or beyond reached 44 percent, four days ahead of average. Soybeans setting pods was at 70 percent, six days ahead of average.

Oats harvested for grain was at 85 percent, five days ahead of average.

The third cutting of alfalfa hay was 17 percent complete and hay condition rated 66 percent good to excellent.

Pasture condition fell to 46 percent good to excellent.
