Iowa rally to focus on consolidation trend in ag

The trend towards more consolidation and mergers in agriculture will be the focus of a “Farmer’s Bill of Rights Rally” Saturday in Storm Lake, Iowa.

J.D. Scholten, the Democrat who unsuccessfully challenged Iowa Congressman Steve King in last fall’s election, has been helping publicize the event. “The thumb on the scale of fairness is not in favor of the farmers right now—and so we’re just trying to balance things out and give farmers a chance,” Scholten says.

Many of the Democratic presidential candidates who’ve been traveling through Iowa this year have promised to address consolidation in the ag sector.
