Iowa officials seek CFAP funds for egg producers

Iowa officials are asking the USDA to include egg producers in the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP).

Eggs were not included in the initial CFAP announcement, but Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says they should have been. He says the liquid egg market has been hurt the most.

“The liquid egg market saw a 68 percent price decline because most of their sales are to restaurants and hotels and that has dried up,” Grassley says.

Nearly 70 percent of the eggs produced in Iowa are for the liquid egg market.  The state is number one overall in egg production.
