Iowa hay auction results

A special summer hay auction was held Monday in Creston, Iowa. Jake Rice of Rice Auction Service of Clearfield, Iowa was the auctioneer.

“We didn’t have as many bales show up as we were hoping for due to a trucking conflict,” Rice says. “But grass bales, we had a pretty good supply of 50 of those large rounds—of course, we sell them by the bale, not per ton—and we ended up at 80 bucks. One gentleman took all 50 of those.”

Rice says they also sold a few bales of straight alfalfa.

“But those bales had been rained on, so they were showing some mold already. Those bales brought 45 dollars.”

Rice says alfalfa square bales brought six dollars each.
