Iowa farmer’s crops ‘look really, really good’

East-central Iowa farmer Dave Walton says his corn and soybeans are off to a great start.

Walton says they’ve been fortunate to avoid the heavy rains and flooding that have impacted other parts of the Midwest.

“This crop looks really, really good right now. It got put in in good shape and we’ve had almost ideal conditions afterwards,” Walton says. “Maybe like to see a little bit more heat after planting, but for the most part this crop looks like one of our better ones in the past few years.”

Walton says they flipped some corn-on-corn acres back to soybeans this spring.

“Just because it looked like there’s a little bit more optimism in the soybean market than on the corn side,” he says. “Normally we’re about two-thirds corn and one-third beans. We flipped that over this year, so we’re almost two-thirds beans and a third corn.”
