Iowa farmer talks fall fertilizer prices

A southwest Iowa farmer says fertilizer prices have been a challenge this fall.

Jeff Jorgenson raises corn and soybeans in Fremont County.

“You really had to be pushing the envelope on when you were going to write the check for it because it seems like every few days it was going up in price,” he said. “I think it’s kind of held steady now for the last month or so.”

He tells Brownfield he’s not expecting input costs to drop anytime soon. “Pretty good grain prices at the moment, so I guess we shouldn’t be too shocked that our fertilizer prices are pretty high,” Jorgenson said. “Hopefully, we can manage through that, be efficient, and have another 2023 year where we can be profitable.”

Jorgenson says input prices are one of his biggest concerns for the 2023 growing season.
