Iowa farmer says field conditions are improving

Southwest Iowa farmer Kevin Ross says field conditions are slowly improving in his area and he’s starting to see more activity.

“I’m starting to see some fertilizer rigs moving around. I haven’t seen any in the field yet, but I think guys are getting prepared to get some nitrogen on and get things started on the fertilizer aspect of things,” Ross says.

Sunshine and warmer temperatures have helped, he says.

“I don’t think you’ll see planters rolling her for at least another week, if not two, and then guys will start hitting it hard. A lot of flooding has happened in the area as well—not too far away—and so there’s a lot of cleanup efforts that have to be done there, too.”

Ross farms near Minden, Iowa, about 25 miles northeast of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area.
