Iowa farmer expecting a great corn crop

Eastern Iowa farmer Lance Lillibridge says he’s hit the halfway point on corn harvest and the crop is exceeding expectations.

“We started the season with some pretty wet corn,” he said. “It’s finally gotten down to a more manageable level on the moisture. There’s an awful lot of dry corn around, but for whatever reason, our plants were extremely healthy and retained that moisture for a lot longer than a lot of the neighbors.”

He tells Brownfield his only concern is the subsoils for next growing season. “We would like to see a little bit more moisture in the soil going into winter here,” Lillibridge said. “We would take a rain, that’s for sure.”

Lillibridge farms near Vinton in Benton County.
