Iowa farmer enjoying excellent planting conditions

A corn and soybean farmer in northern Iowa is taking advantage of what he calls the best planting conditions he’s seen in several years.

Brent Renner of Klemme tells Brownfield he did some strip-tilling and conventional tillage over the weekend.

“And those fields that I started on are for sure ready to plant, and in good shape from a soil standpoint. It’s just the temperature we’d like to be a few more degrees in an ideal world, but we all know we don’t live in an ideal world.”

He says soil temps are around 50 degrees and should warm up considerably with low 70’s forecast Wednesday.

“And that should help a lot. We’ll get those soil temperatures warmed up here in the next five to ten days and hopefully be off to the races.”

Renner says after a lot of thought, he decided to stick with his usual rotation of two-thirds corn, one-third soybeans for this year.
