Iowa farmer discusses farm bill priorities

A southwest Iowa farmer says he’s focusing on farm bill developments as planting season winds down.

Ray Gaesser raises corn, soybeans, and cereal rye in Adams County. “First of all, crop insurance is probably one of the most important pieces for agriculture. We need to maintain that and have it as a viable option.”

He tells Brownfield conservation investments are critical. “Trying to do the best we can to help maintain those incentives out there rather than regulations.”

Gaesser says trade programs haven’t seen a boost in funding for years and that needs to change.
