Iowa farmer describes #Harvest20 as dry but smooth

A farmer in northern Iowa describes the 2020 harvest as dry but smooth.

Andy Coombs grows corn and soybeans with his father near Latimer.

“We were pretty much able to start combining and got most of our beans knocked out, saw some green stem beans along the way. Corn harvest went exceptionally smooth.”

He tells Brownfield yields were variable.

“In May we had entirely too much rain, which drowned out the low spots. And then late summer, we missed I think about every rain that was in the area.”

Coombs says crops in heavier soil did better, but all his acres did surprisingly well considering the lack of late season moisture.
