Iowa Farm Bureau president encouraged by biofuels momentum

The president of Iowa Farm Bureau is encouraged by recent policies that he says bode well for biofuels.

Brent Johnson tells Brownfield EPA’s emergency waiver allowing E15 sales this summer will boost ethanol demand and lower costs at the pump.

“Couple that with the recent work in the Iowa Legislature, we’re certainly sitting in a really nice space to be able to be a little more fuel-resilient and stabilize rural Iowa a little bit.”

He’s referring to the Biofuels Access Bill which makes Iowa the first state with an E15 standard.

“It’s a real strength for the consumer with higher-priced fuels today, (and) it certainly helps stabilize some uncertainty in the agriculture world.”

Johnson says the legislation will also help create jobs in rural communities.

Governor Reynolds is expected to sign the bill into law at the conclusion of the Legislative Session.
