Iowa crop conditions steady with last week
After several weeks of declines in the condition rating of Iowa’s corn crop, the latest crop progress report shows the crop has at least stabilized—thanks to some very welcome rains across the state last week.
Sixty-seven percent of the corn crop is rated good to excellent, the same as last week. Corn has started silking across much of Iowa, with the southeastern district leading with two percent.
The condition of the Iowa soybean crop stood at 61 percent good to excellent as of Sunday, down one point from last week. Soybeans have started to bloom in each district of the state.
Topsoil moisture levels improved, but 54 percent still remains short to very short. Subsoil moisture declined slightly, now rated 61 short to very short.
