Iowa corn silking is at 41%

Forty-one percent of Iowa’s corn crop had begun to silk, as of Sunday. That’s one week behind the five-year average.

The corn crop was rated 62 percent good to excellent.

Forty-seven percent of the soybean crop had started to bloom, nine days behind average. Four percent of the beans were setting pods.

The soybean crop was rated 64 percent good to excellent.

The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 56 percent. Hay condition rated 61 percent good to excellent.

Pasture condition declined for the third straight week with 61 percent rated good to excellent.
