Iowa corn planting at 69%, soybeans 43% planted

Corn planting exploded across Iowa last week.

The latest crop report from USDA says farmers were able to plant about half the state’s expected corn crop during the week ending Sunday.

At 69 percent complete, the pace is now nine days ahead of normal.

Josh Nelson, who farms near Belmond in north-central Iowa, tells Brownfield he’s finished with corn and half done with soybean planting.

“And God-willing, we’ll be able to get done with those in another week or two.”

Statewide, soybean planting advanced to 43 percent, 12 days ahead of the five-year average.
