Iowa corn condition declines, soybean rating holds steady

The condition of Iowa’s corn crop continued to decline last week while soybeans held steady.

The latest weekly USDA report says 62 percent of corn is considered good to excellent, down from 65 percent a week ago.

Soybeans considered good to excellent remained at 61 percent.

Corn development is about five days ahead of normal with 92 percent silking and more than 40 percent at or beyond the dough stage.

For soybeans, 93 percent are blooming and 73 percent are setting pods, both more than a week ahead of the five-year average.

The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 92 percent, with the third cutting now 22 percent done.
