Iowa Congressman on DOJ meatpacker investigation: “It’s just been crickets”

A U.S. Congressman is frustrated there have been no updates from the Department of Justice as it investigates major meatpackers.

Iowa Republican Randy Feenstra says the DOJ launched the investigation over two years ago.

“It’s just been crickets and there’s just been no movement or discussion, nothing. And obviously that’s a real concern.”

The DOJ continues to formally investigate antitrust violations among JBS, Tyson Foods, Cargill, and National Beef.

“It would be nice if (the DOJ) could inform us of where they’re at or when they’re going to finally have something to bring to the public. Producers need to know what’s going on and what’s going to happen.”

Feenstra says because the Department of Justice is part of the executive branch, there’s not much Congress can do to gain access to the investigation.
