Iowa Cattlemen host Cattle Market Roundup meeting in NW Iowa

The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association continues to push for Congressional cattle market reform.

ICA director of government relations Cora Fox says they recently hosted a meeting with U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley and U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra to discuss the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act.

“Which is really this bill that’s very intentional in setting regional mandatory minimums for cash trade. It’s an attempt to level the playing field so the packers have to play ball with the producers, and it also provides significant transparency which is lacking from the fed cattle market.”

She tells Brownfield the bill has bipartisan and bicameral support.

“Based off what we heard from Senator Grassley, and some conversations we’ve had with other elected officials, hopefully that bill will head to markup and ultimately to the Floor for a vote here in the month of June.”

Fox calls cattle market reform a “legacy issue” for Senator Grassley because he’s been advocating for changes the past 20 years.
