Iowa Ag Secretary optimistic about trade with UK
A top state ag official is encouraged after participating in a recent trade mission to the United Kingdom.
Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig tells Brownfield Brexit has created an excellent opportunity for U.S. ag exports.
“They are certainly looking now around the world to try to diversify their trade portfolio. And we can be kindred spirits there (because) we similarly are looking and should be looking to diversify the trade portfolio.”
He says the U.S. should also be looking to do more business with allies.
“And you’re hard-pressed to find a closer friend and more important ally in the world than the UK. So I think from that standpoint it makes a ton of sense, it’s a doable free trade agreement deal.”
Naig says there’s upside for U.S. soybean and ethanol exports as the UK moves to an E10 mandate.
