Interest in pasture insurance continues to grow

Due to the drought, USDA’s Risk Management Agency Administrator Marcia Bunger says producer interest in the Pasture, Rangeland, Forage Rainfall Index Crop Insurance Program continues to grow. She tells Brownfield the premium is subsidized.

“That is based on data from NOAA. If you have a policy and the data from NOAA indicates the precipitation is less than what’s typical in a grid, you’ll receive a loss indemnity check.”

But Bunger says some producers across the country unaware of the PRF policy.

“They know about FSA’s NAP and they can get insurance through the FSA office, but they’re not aware there’s another product called PRF.”
