Insect pressure expected to rise

A tech service rep with BASF anticipates increasing insect pressure in dry areas.

Mark Storr tells Brownfield growers should be concentrating on soybean fields.

“Beware of spider mites, that’s something that we sometimes have problems with in dry years.”

He says this is the time other pests begin to emerge as well.

“Japanese beetles (and) corn rootworms for example. There are a few soybean aphids popping up here as well (so) that will be something to watch.”

Storr is based in central Iowa.
