Inflation casts shadow over markets

Potential fallout from inflation is casting a shadow over commodity prices.

Arlan Suderman is chief commodities economist for StoneX.

“When we look at what the market is paying attention to right now, I’d have to say the backdrop is recession fears.”

He tells Brownfield a recessionary environment would affect energy prices in 2023.

“That has implications for fertilizer production, it has implications for crop chemical production. All these things could increase input costs for these crops, so it’s something we’re going to have to watch going forward.”

Suderman says one factor will be demand from China as the country relaxes COVID restrictions.
