As harvest begins Indiana state agencies have partnered to promote road safety this fall.  Indiana State Department of Agriculture director Ted McKinney says this is a state wide effort.  “We’re so thrilled the Indiana State Police joined in with us, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Labor, and the Department of Homeland Security,” he says.  “Of course ISDA and private institutions like Indiana Farm Bureau as an example are coming together and lifting this up.”

He says it’s important for all motorists to share the road this fall and reminds all motorist that patience will be vital.  “And I mean patience on both sides,” he says.  “If a farmer is trying to cross a highway – I hope they will be patient and wait until there is extra time to cross that highway.”

McKinney tells Brownfield patience also applies to other drivers.  “If they could just take it easy before they pass – or if they could break and let somebody move out of the way,” he says.  “And patience is the word I would like everybody to consider.”

He says all farm equipment is required to be equipped with a red triangle or Slow Moving Vehicle sign.
