Illinois state fairs will return this summer

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has announced the return of the Illinois and DuQuoin State Fairs this year.

After being cancelled in 2020 for the first time since WWII because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pritzker says the 2021 theme “One Illinois” was chosen to unite fair goers and celebrate the state’s number one industry: agriculture. Illinois State Fair Director Kevin Gordon says the theme is meant to symbolize unity and strength as the fair reopens it gates.

Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert says this is an exciting announcement for fairgoers, exhibitors, and ag youth. “We are really looking forward to the junior shows, the livestock shows, the horse shows and the grandstand events going on in the evenings. Let’s get back to normal sooner rather than later and let’s enjoy life as we once knew it!”

In addition, both fairs will host mobile on site vaccination clinics to give attendees the opportunity to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Illinois State Fair runs August 12-22 in Springfield, while the Du Quoin State Fair takes place August 27-September 6. Check back here or tune in to your local Brownfield station for ongoing updates on both events.
