Illinois soybeans blooming earlier than last year

Nearly 100% of soybeans have emerged in Illinois and 23 percent are blooming, compared to just 6 percent last year. Soybean condition is nearly 80-percent good to excellent, as of Sunday. Corn is rated 83 percent good to excellent.

Sorghum is 93 percent planted, up 12 percent from last year and 10 percent from the 5-year-average. Sorghum is 51 percent good to excellent.

Winter wheat is 66 percent harvested and the crop is rated 53 percent good to excellent.

The average rainfall of just over two inches last week in Illinois boosted topsoil moisture by 11 percent from last week, to 91 percent adequate to surplus.
