Illinois Soybean Growers to discuss key issues at state capitol

Soybean growers from across Illinois will be in Springfield Wednesday discussing key issues with state legislators.

Andrew Larson, Director of Government Relations and Strategy for the Illinois Soybean Association tells Brownfield there has been a lot of change in the General Assembly.

“One of the things we have found when engaging with some of these folks: it’s not that they are hostile toward our issues it’s just that they don’t know about our issues and haven’t had the opportunity to speak with farmers. We are excited to bring the best experts about agriculture, the farmers themselves, to Springfield to talk about it.”

He says raising the estate tax exemption is a main talking point as well as, “A lot of bills that deal with conservation and environmental issues. Some of the sponsors need the perspective of farmers and agriculture because they may not be taking that into consideration.”

The Illinois Soybean Growers will be partnering with the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association for the Lobby Day and legislative reception at the state capitol on Wednesday.
