Illinois Soybean Association focused on increasing biodiesel use

Increasing the use of biodiesel across the state and country is a top priority for the Illinois Soybean Association this year.

Public affairs and marketing manager Andrew Larson tells Brownfield that was the main talking point from Chairman Doug Schroeder at their annual meeting earlier this month.

“Pushing towards the ultimate goal of a 20% blend rate of biodiesel here in Illinois from the current about 5-10% blend levels.”

Larson says engagement and education are the most important factors.

“We know that there is a lot of talk about the environment and about the changes that are happening and if we can use a cleaner fuel in biodiesel and get that message out to as many audiences as possible, we can help increase that adoption rate and support for a cleaner burning diesel fuel that is grown right here in Illinois.”

Larson says they will have representatives at upcoming events like Illinois Ag Legislative Day and Commodity Classic to discuss policy issues at the state and national levels.
