Illinois mental health resources highlighted during National Farm Safety Week

Illinois Director of Agriculture Jerry Costello says National Farm Safety and Health Week not only focuses on physical safety going into harvest, but also draws attention to farmer mental health.

He tells Brownfield the Farm Family Resources Initiative hotline is available to farmers entering a stressful time of year.

“You can call 1-833-FARM-SOS if you are experiencing major stress or in a suicidal situation. Please know that this is an outlet for you. It is a place for people to reach out in privacy.”

He also encourages non-farmers to be on the lookout for slow moving ag vehicles and exercise caution when passing so everyone arrives at their destination safely.

National Farm Safety and Health Week runs through Saturday.
