Illinois lifts “stop use” on dicamba, extends application cutoff date
The Illinois Department of Agriculture has lifted the “stop use” order on three dicamba products following clarification from US EPA.
Jean Payne, President of the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association, tells Brownfield as of Thursday evening XtendiMax, Engenia and FeXapan can now be used the remainder of the season following label restrictions, despite the recent 9th Circuit Court ruling that vacates registration of the products.
“Custom applicators, and although it doesn’t say farmers I am comfortable to say that it includes farmers, who have product on hand can apply these products and distributors who have it in the supply chain essentially have to bring it back to the registrant if it is not in the hands of the custom applicators or the farmers.”
She says there are still some gray areas and questions they are working to get answered on the ag input side.
Payne says the department has also extended the state application cutoff date from June 20th to June 25th to make up for the days lost during the “stop use” order.
Illinois Soybean Growers Chairman Doug Schroeder of Mahomet says they appreciate the guidance from IDOA and that this update will allow flexibility for soybean farmers, many of which already have their crop planted and weed management plans in place.
