Illinois lawmakers push for additional propane shipments

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is taking steps to help Illinois farmers struggling to dry harvested grain thanks to a letter from seven Illinois lawmakers.

The commission has approved emergency shipments of propane from Texas to Illinois that will continue for 30 days.

In a statement the Illinois Corn Growers Association says the delegation “showed up for farmers in a big way” by calling for answers about what can be done to help those farmers who are struggling to dry the wet corn crop. The letter mentions that some grain elevators are halting delivery from farmers and storing corn on the ground because they are running short on propane to dry it.

The Illinois congressional delegation who signed the letter include: Mike Bost, Cheri Bustos, Rodney Davis, Adam Kinzinger, Darin LaHood, John Shimkus and Lauren Underwood.
