Illinois farmer says winter tasks caught up, planting prep underway

A central Illinois grain and cattle farmer says cooperative weather has helped him stay caught up on winter chores.

Marty Marr of New Berlin tells Brownfield, “It hasn’t been extremely cold for too long, so it has allowed us to get a lot of work done in the shop and also a lot of grain moved here in January and into February.”

He says now they are starting to prepare equipment for planting season.

“We start with the tractors and then pull in the planters to get them tuned up and ready to go. We want to be sure they are ready to hit the field when it is time to go. The green flag will drop here before we know it.”

Marr is immediate past president of the Illinois Corn Growers Association.
