Illinois farmer likes crop progress

A northwest Illinois farmer says his corn and soybean crops are looking better than normal.

Tom Mueller tells Brownfield timely rains and good moisture levels have led to a favorable growing season this far.

“The corn and beans seem to be growing rapidly and I don’t see to many problems with it [them] right now,” Mueller said.

Mueller said if the weather remains fair, the timeline for this growing season could speed up.

“We’re looking at, you know, being able to start harvest maybe several weeks sooner than what we did last year,” he said.

Mueller said because of last year’s wet conditions, he wasn’t able to start harvest until mid-October.
