Illinois Director of Agriculture John Sullivan resigns

Governor Pritzker and John Sullivan during a press conference in 2019

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker over the weekend accepted the resignation of John Sullivan as Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

Governor JB Pritzker asked for the director’s resignation following the fall-out from a 2012 email, which the Administration says the then-state senator did not handle appropriately.

In a statement to Brownfield, Emily Bittner, Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications with the Governor’s office says the Governor is grateful for Sullivan’s service in the administration, however he holds all state employees to the highest ethical standards.

IDOA chief of staff Jeremy Flynn will serve as acting director for the department.
