Illinois crops progressing well

Illinois crops are making steady progress mid-season.

The USDA reports as of Sunday, 89% of the state’s corn crop is silking, up from 60% the week before with 18% in the dough stage. Illinois corn is rated 71% good to excellent, up slightly on the week.

Soybeans blooming reached 75%, up from just 41% the week prior and slightly ahead of the 69% 5-year average. 35% of the crop is setting pods with 61% rated in the good to excellent categories.

The 3rd cutting of alfalfa hay is 34% complete, compared to 10% at this time last year.

Pasture conditions fell slightly on the week to 46% good to excellent.
