Illinois crop progress falling back in line with average

While Illinois crops got off to an early start this year, progress is more in line with average at this point in the growing season according to the USDA.

As of Sunday, 91% of corn was silking with 20% in the dough stage, compared to the five-year average of 22%. 77% of soybeans are blooming with 38% setting pods compared to 37% on average.

Crop conditions improved slightly week over week with corn up 3 percentage points at 68% good to excellent and soybeans up 5 points to 64% good to excellent.

The second cutting of alfalfa hay is 93% complete and third cutting reached 39%, both ahead of average.
