Illinois corn, soybean ratings fall slightly

USDA data shows 3% of Illinois corn has reached maturity at the end of August.

As of Sunday, 85% of the crop is in the dough stage with 46% dented. Illinois corn is rated 69% good to excellent, down one percentage point from both the previous week and this time last year.

Eighty-six percent of soybeans are setting pods with 66% of the crop in good to excellent condition. That is a two-point drop from the previous week and 5-point drop from this week in 2021.

The third cutting of alfalfa hay is 66% complete and pasture conditions dropped 9 percentage points at just 40% good to excellent.
