Illinois corn harvest on the home stretch, bean harvest battling rains

Corn harvest in Illinois continues to pace ahead of average, while soybean harvest lags behind average as widespread and frequent rains prevent the crop from drying out.

As of Sunday, the USDA says corn harvest is 78% complete, up 16 percentage points on the week and ahead of the average 72%.

Soybeans harvested reached 68% compared to 77% on average, but still up 17 percentage points on the week.

Winter wheat planting is 67% complete, only 5 points behind average with nearly half of the crop emerged. In its first condition rating of the season, Illinois winter wheat came in at 76% good to excellent.
