Illinois corn and soybean harvest ahead of average

Mother nature was kind to Illinois farmers last week allowing harvest pace to progress above average.

As of Sunday, the USDA says 41% of Illinois corn is harvested, up 20 percentage points from the week before and up 9 points from the 5-year average. The crop is rated 70% good to excellent.

Soybean harvest is 32% complete compared to 10% the week before and 25% on average. USDA rates the crop 72% good to excellent.

Winter wheat planting also progresses 10 percentage points to 12% complete, just behind average, with 1% emerged.

Weekend rainfall in parts of the state brought one of the first delays of the season for some farmers but many are back in the field this week.
