Illinois agronomist wouldn’t bet on much planting progress

An agronomist who covers west-central Illinois suggests planters are few and far between.

Matt Montgomery is with Pioneer.

“If you drove through my area, I probably could put money on the table and bet you that you’re not going to find a planted field. That doesn’t mean they’re not out there, I’m just saying it’s going to be really hard to find those.”

Because of recent rain and more in the forecast, he tells Brownfield some farmers are feeling under the gun.

“Not necessarily for planting, but some of those other things that have to be done.”

Montgomery says that includes applying anhydrous and burndown herbicides.
