Illinois ag officials pleased with Trump’s biofuels plan

Illinois ag leaders and lawmakers are pleased with the details of President Trump’s biofuels plan announced Friday morning.

Illinois Corn Growers Association President Ted Mottaz says corn farmers across Illinois are thanking Trump and his EPA for following through with their commitment and giving corn farmers certainty for additional markets.

“With all the turmoil that is going on in Washington right now it is kind of enlightening that a positive thing would be coming out like this. Promises made and promises kept are what we should be grateful for because it is a tough time out here right now.”

He says ICGA members who acted on the issue are responsible for the win.

Illinois lawmakers are also showing support for the plan. Congressman Mike Bost says it comes at a time when Illinois ethanol producers needed a big win and says the plan shows Trump is working for American agriculture.

Congressman Rodney Davis says the details of the plan will put US ethanol on the right path forward.

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos says the details, which are still months away, will determine if the steps will be enough to relieve the damage already caused.
