Ill-timed rains for eastern Iowa farmer
Ill-timed rains have hurt crops and delayed harvest in eastern Iowa.
Dan Schurr grows corn and soybeans near LeClaire and says rainfall was quite limited during the growing season.
“We were quite dry in the early part of the season, and then again later in the season. August we saw almost no rain, September almost no rain. And of course now that we are getting ready to harvest, we’re getting rain every day.”
He tells Brownfield the dry summer took a toll.
“We certainly took the top end off with the dryness. Still probably okay crops, but certainly not records by any means.”
Schurr says farmers in some of the drier areas have begun harvesting corn and soybeans will probably be ready in another week or two.
