Hubbs curious about use projections and corn yields
Soybean exports so far this year are off by 13 percent, according to Todd Hubbs, an agriculture economist at the University of Illinois.
“And that’s all China,” Hubbs told Brownfield Ag News Wednesday. “We’ve seen really strong soybean exports to Mexico and places like Pakistan and Japan, but they’re not making up for the China loss that we normally see this time of year.”
The first thing Hubbs says he look for in Thursday’s USDA Supply and Demand Report is use projections, as well as production estimates.
“I’m curious about the corn yield in particular, and where the soybean yield came out,” he said. “I feel like the soybean crop’s a big one this year, and I’m anxious to see what that corn yield number’s going to be.”
Hubbs thinks there’ll be expansion in use estimates for corn but not much of change in the soybean use estimates. The report is released Thursday at noon eastern time, 11:00 a.m. central time.
