House stalemate delays first farm bill talks

The first scheduled discussion about the next farm bill has been postponed.

Likely Republican House Ag Committee Chair Glenn GT Thompson was planning to have a listening session to hear about farm bill issues at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Saturday, but lawmakers must stay close to the Capitol over the weekend for potential votes to select a Speaker of the House.

The Pennsylvania farm bill session has been moved to next Friday, January 13th at the same location.

Update: The House of Representatives elected California Congressman Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House late Friday during the fifteenth round of voting.
