Hot and dry weather drops Nebraska’s crop ratings

Nebraska’s crop ratings fell following a week of hot, dry weather and crop-damaging storms.

Corn is rated 70 percent good to excellent this week, down four points from last week.  Soybeans rated 73 percent good to excellent, down three points. Sorghum rated 53 percent good to excellent, down 15 points from last week.

Silking of corn was at 19 percent with one percent in the dough stage. Soybeans blooming was 57 percent with 13 percent setting pods. Sorghum heading was at 12 percent.

Winter wheat harvest was 50 percent complete. The crop rated 45 percent good to excellent.

 Pastures were called 48 percent good to excellent.
