Hinson blasts California’s plan to ban sales of gas-powered cars

A US Representative from Iowa says California’s new ban on gas-powered vehicle sales by 2035 is an out-of-touch energy policy that will hurt Midwestern farmers.

Republican Ashley Hinson tells Brownfield the ban will dwindle a key market for the biofuels industry and corn farmers. “This is an unhealthy obsession with electric vehicles,” she said. “We need an all-of-the-above energy strategy for consumers. That means oil and gas, ethanol, and natural gas.”

Hinson says the demand isn’t there for permanent EV sales. “These are wealthy coastal elites who are taking advantage of tax credits,” she said. “This will hurt taxpayers the most, and I am going to do everything I can to push back against policies like this.”

The California Air Resources Board’s ruling will also limit the sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles.
