Heavy rains delay harvest progress in Wisconsin

Heavy rains across the state left less than two days suitable for field work in Wisconsin last week, delaying harvest progress.

Corn for grain harvest has begun in parts of southern Wisconsin, with 1% complete. As of Sunday, the crop is rated 65% good to excellent and 30% is considered mature. Corn for silage harvest reached 31% complete, 18 days behind the five-year average.

Soybean harvest is ahead of corn harvest at 3% complete. Plants were dropping leaves on 60% of soybeans. The crop is rated 71% good to excellent.

Winter wheat planting is nearly two weeks behind average at 27% in the ground and 18% emerged.

Oats are 91% harvested, potato harvest reached 65% and the fourth cutting of alfalfa hay is 62% complete.
