Head of Hungarian university says he’s optimistic about the future for vet students

The Rector of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest is optimistic about the future of large animal veterinarians in Hungary.

Peter Sotonyi says “I have a very positive view of the future that we will be able to provide enough professionals required by that field that will support this large animal meat production. I’m also pretty sure demand for that type of production will increase.”

He tells Brownfield there is an obligation to increase the number of students who want to be part of the feed animal veterinary business. To help students learn about working with large animals, he says, students spend time with horses, sheep, cattle, hogs, and chicken at the university’s farm.

And, the university has a connection with Purdue University and has plans to work together on research and a student exchange program.

The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest attracts veterinarian students from 59 different countries.

Brownfield is on the ground in Budapest for a U.S. Press Field Trip hosted by Mediaworks.
