Hazlett to continue rural drug crisis work at White House

The USDA’s Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development has transferred to the White House.  Anne Hazlett has been named White House’s Senior Advisor for Rural Affairs.

Hazlett’s new role will expand on her rural drug control efforts at USDA, allowing her to focus on prevention, treatment, and recovery for people addicted to opioids and other drugs.  Hazlett says addiction is a monumental barrier to rural prosperity, and the crisis of addiction is a priority for her and the Trump Administration.

The White House says Hazlett will also coordinate interagency efforts to fight substance abuse.

Hazlett led USDA’s efforts to build infrastructure for drug prevention, treatment and recovery, partnerships, and innovation in rural communities.  Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says Hazlett is perfectly suited for her new role.
