Hawley urges emergency farm-to-foodbank program

Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley is urging Ag Secretary Perdue to use part of the coronavirus relief fund to set up an emergency farm-to-foodbank program.

In his letter to Perdue, Hawley says there has to be a way for healthy produce, being destroyed by some farmers because of market disruptions, to reach people in need.

Hawley says the 2018 Farm Bill has a model for such a program to ensure that feeding organizations, including faith-based groups, have that fresh produce delivered to them. He says there should be no 50% state-contribution match for such deliveries.

  • Oh, yes! I was hoping someone would ensure this resource would not go to waste!!! Please, Heavenly Father, work quickly to bless our farmers as well as those who are in need!!

  • I think this is a good idea. I also wish there was help for people that’s salary is too high for food stamps yet after the Bill’s are paid, there isn’t much money for groceries to last all month.
