Hawley blasts SCOTUS ruling on Prop 12

Republican U.S. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri says Proposition 12 oversteps boundaries.

“We have a commerce clause in order to prevent any one state from regulating the commerce and production of other states,” he said. “Frankly, I think that’s what California is trying to do.”

The U.S. Supreme Court recently upheld the California law which bans sales of pork, veal, and eggs from animals whose confinement does not meet minimum space requirements.

He tells Brownfield, “Congress could of course preempt California’s regulations and we should.”

In the House, Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson of Iowa says she plans to reintroduce the Exposing Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act soon. The bill would prohibit state and local governments from interfering with the production of agricultural goods in other states.
